Guidelines for Scholarship Application
Who is eligible to apply for the scholarship:
The Emily de Montluzin Foreign Language Scholarship is awarded annually by a board of directors to a senior from any accredited high school in Hancock County, Mississippi, who has excelled in the study of a foreign language through at least the second-year level (both years’ course work in the same language) and plans to continue this study in college. A composite score of 25 or higher on the ACT test is required for application. The award may be used at any college the recipient chooses to attend.
The applicant must be committed to take during his or her college freshman year at least six hours of a foreign language. It is not required that the applicant plan to major or minor in a foreign language.
Since this award is specifically a foreign language scholarship, the applicant should be cognizant of the importance of addressing in the letter of application the relevance of the study of a foreign language to his or her chosen path of study and career plans.
Applications must include the following:
- A completed application form. (See downloadable form available on web site.)
- A letter stating in the applicant's own words why he or she should be considered for a foreign language scholarship and how the study of a foreign language in college will be relevant to the applicant's chosen path of study and career plans.
- An official transcript sent under separate cover by the applicant's guidance counselor.
- Two letters of recommendation: one from the applicant's foreign language teacher and one from the applicant's principal, assistant principal, or guidance counselor.
All necessary forms and completed application must be submitted to the following address:
