The Emily de Montluzin Foreign Language Scholarship was established in 1983 by former students and friends of Emily Hosmer de Montluzin on the occasion of her retirement as a Latin and French teacher at Bay Senior High School, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
The $5,000 scholarship is awarded annually by the board of directors of the scholarship fund. The award is open to a senior from any accredited high school in Hancock County, Mississippi, who has excelled in the study of a foreign language through at least the second-year level (both years’ course work in the same language) and who has received a composite score of 25 or higher on the ACT test. The recipient must be committed to at least six hours' study of the same or another foreign language as a freshman in any college of his or her choice. Since this award is specifically a foreign language scholarship, the applicant should be cognizant of the importance of addressing in the letter of application the relevance of the study of a foreign language to his or her chosen path of study and career plans.
